I am getting published in a book!

I didn’t want to say anything on this blog until it was official, but today I got confirmation that some of my articles from Wise Bread will be published in an upcoming Wise Bread book.

The title is 10,001 Ways to Live Large on a Small Budget  and the release date is May 1st, 2009.  However, we already have preorder listings  on Amazon, Borders, and Barnes and Nobles!  Of course, the cheapest price is still Amazon.

All of the articles in the book are from Wise Bread and they will probably be edited a bit to suit the book format better, but this will be an awesome book because you will be able to read some of the best tips from Wise Bread in your bathroom.

I already told some of my family and friends and my dad said that he wants a free copy if possible.  If not, he would buy it and that he is my “most royal reader”.  My mom said that this book will help the people of America, which I thought was kind of funny.  I am probably not going to make money off this book at all since there about a dozen regular writers for Wise Bread and the book is a collection of materials that has already been published online.  However, it is still quite exciting because my ramblings have never been published in a book before.

An interesting anecdote I found out is that the publisher/editor said that frugal living books generally sold poorly in years past.  This is no surprise since people were more interested in spending money rather than saving money, but I am hoping that our book does better  in the current economic climate.

Anyway, I already got some mockups for the pages of book, and it looks pretty neat.   I am hoping that it would serve as a great promotional tool for Wise Bread, and also encourage people to save money.

Leaving San Mateo

I am leaving San Mateo for China first thing in the morning tomorrow.  Sorry for the lack of updates but these couple weeks have been insanely busy for me.  We actually still haven’t completely closed on the house because of a bunch of mix ups and confusion.  Hopefully it will be done tomorrow, but I won’t be here to see it.  That sounds pretty precarious and believe me, I have been pulling out my hair for about two days.  I have also been trying to tie up loose ends at work and it has been two extremely chaotic weeks.

I am so glad that I will be leaving on a jetplane tomorrow because I just need to get away from this crazy country for a while and escape to another crazy country.   We will be watching the presidential election through the filter of CCTV.  The hubby already voted early on Saturday, so he is all set.

I will be back early morning of November 14th, but there will be an excellent guest post by The Wandering Tax Pro in a couple days.   Stay tuned!

Calling for Guest Posts for November 2008

Well, I will be on vacation from October 30th to November 14th in China so I probably will not be blogging during those weeks.  So for the first time ever, The Baglady will be accepting guest posts about personal finance, careers, or womanhood.  You can submit an article you have already written or a brand new article.  I don’t mind if you republish it on your blog.  Please contact me if you would like to participate!

An Absolutely Random Baglady Update

As many of you bloggers already know, this weekend is the BlogHer ‘08 conference in San Francisco. I was planning to attend, but got lazy and missed the registration deadline. Additionally, these couple months have been kind of crazy in terms of having free weekends. Nevertheless, several Wise Bread bloggers are flying in so we will be meeting for dinner in San Francisco tomorrow! I am pretty excited about meeting Lynn, Will, Greg, Linsey, and Carrie. Anyway, I’m sure the conference will be awesome and they will be spreading the word for Wise Bread.

Besides that, we found out that our rent is not increasing. This is the advantage in finding a nice landlord. I know that his HOA fees went up a little bit, so keeping the rent the same actually means he is losing a little bit of profit, but having good tenants that pay on time like us is very valuable to a landlord, too.

As usual people are asking me when I will have babies. Honestly, that is up to God and the hubby. Obviously I can’t have a baby on my own, so I don’t know why I get the most queries about this subject. So I tend to say, “ask my husband” now. As I have said before, I prefer to have the first kid before I turn 30, but it is not totally up to me.

Finally, my husband and I are playing in the Arkham Horror summer league. He named our team Team Chimerica. It’s a combination of the words China and America, and also looks like the word chimera. He has been chronicling our battles against ancient evil at his blog. If you have never played Arkham Horror before then my hubby’s posts may sound like insane nerd babble, but this cooperative game is the only board game where we don’t try to kill each other but instead work together to fight an Ancient One and other monsters.

That is all for this really random post. There are more personal finance topics to write about and more evil to fight, but for now I must figure out what to have for dinner.
