I don’t think it’s reasonable to expect young college students to pay for Boomers’ pensions. The UC system has been broken for years; they expected to dole out huge pensions without ever having the employees pay into them. This worked great until the stock market crashed.
The real fix is to fix pension plans and retiree benefits. Yes, this will mean some angry cash-strapped Boomers. However, it will also mean lower costs of education for all. In the long run, it’s a net societal win to reduce or eliminate many pensions.
