It's really hard to say whether a size 2 person needs to lose weight or not. Dress sizes tend to go by bust size, but having a gut or hips can make certain styles untenable. Her troubles hiking really do suggest she could use a little more physical activity (can't we all).

It could be that she is a normal weight and that wanting to lose could indicate an eating disorder in the making. However, if she has a small frame to start with, then yes, she really could have gained a significant amount of weight, enough to push her five or six points up on the BMI if she's short (American average is about 5'4", for example), and still count as a "size 2." My understanding is that the body composition (% of fat) is actually the more important metric; things like the BMI are just estimates.

Here's one way to commit to losing weight: stickk.com. Basically it allows you to set financial incentives for losing weight. Be sure to check out the "anti-charities" section.

Good luck with getting fitter. It does sound like you are small enough already but if you are unhappy with how you look and feel then I am sure you will find benefit form doing the exercises. The Wii fit looks like great fun.

I agree with J Allan. It is all about reducing. Maybe you can gorge once a week, but after the gorging you should eat lightly and watch your scale closely. Wish you success.
