It’s been hard for me to find ways to exercise which are fun and hold my interest. Recently, I discovered an exciting Tae-Bo video. I wouldn’t be surprised if Wii Fit could hold me for a while as well. But we have no Wii.
What I’d really like someday is an elliptical machine in a place where I can see the tv. I loved those in college…I can’t run because of a bad back. Maybe a treadmill for Micah, who prefers to run or walk very very fast.

I was once 167 pounds and my blood sugar was screwy and I had high cholesterol and blood pressure. I was scared to lose my health to enjoy my life, so I started to lose weight. I lost almost 30 pounds in a year and my blood sugar and cholesterol returned back to normal. My recent job change made me depressed for a while so I gained about 6 pounds from 137 pounds. Now I want to start to lose more. I have some experiences and I want to share with you.
1. have more excercises. We’ll go hiking every weekend for 3 to 5 hours and walk 1 hour every weekday.
2. only excercises are not enough. If I still eat whatever I want to eat, I can not lose any. I must go on diet. I started to eat more vegetables (not fruits) and less rice and bread ( fortunately we do not have much cheese or cream in Chinese food). I stopped to eat icecream and all kind of sweet food ( my hubby was not supportive and he ate icecream in front of me to torture me and was driven away by me with a loud scream).
3.The portion of food is very important. If you go to restaurant to eat, you can only take one meal, not three meals a day. American restaurants give too much food in order to sell more. The portion of one meal (it doesn’t matter is breakfast, lunch or dinner) is more than our body needs for a whole day. Last weekend our brother in law invited us to have some American breadfast. After that I did not have any food for the day. Yesterday we had a nice lunch in a restaurant, and after that we knew that we could not eat anymore. Most of the time we cook at home, so I will be very careful and use only small bowls.
4. About some diet programs. I have not tried many diet Programs, but I tried one. One of my freinds introduced me to Usana, and I spent $100 to try ( by that time I have already succcessfully lost 20 pounds). I got a package which includes some energy bars, some small packages of powder and some food supplement tablets. I tried it and lost some more pounds. The inspiration of Usana gave me is that we actually can live with very small portion of food without feeling hungery and that we actually can reprogram our eating habit or make adjustments to it if we have enough incentives to stick with our plan. I did not buy Usana package any more, because after that I have used to eat less becaused I have realized that I do not need so much food.
I think most Americans need some self realization and self recognition that they are fat people and they need to eat less. I think to blog that subject will help a lot people with their health and appearance problems, and of cause, to help them to save money for health, food and clothes.

I agree with kin, if you’re not 100% committed, you are unlikely to succeed. You need to be completely “into” it or any results you get will only be temporary.
I started a diet and exercise plan on my birthday this year and recently bought the Wii Fit to augment my existing plan. I had let myself go a bit since I graduated high school 10 years ago, and decided to turn my life around for my sake and for my family. If you choose to pursue this, you should do it for the same reasons.
ok, I’m hoping that was a typo where you said you were a size 2. If you really are a size 2 and anyone including yourself thinks you need to lose weight then all of you need a reality check LOL. You are just asking for an eating disorder if you don’t already have one!
Please don’t take my comments the wrong way, I am totally saying this out of concern for you. I have been on both sides of the weight scale. When I was tiny I didn’t realize I was and I did develop an eating disorder for a short time, trust me all that causes is other problems down the road!
A size 2 person does not need to lose weight! I’m 5’8″ and when I was a size 2 I weighed about 105lbs, not knowing your height I will use that as an average, honestly, how can someone who weights so little lose 15lbs???? Even if you weigh as much as 120lbs, why would you want to be 105 lbs? It’s unhealthy.
I would give anything to be back to about 140lbs again, but I would NEVER want to be anything less then 120 again, I’m healthier overweight then I was when I was that tiny!

Just as a cultural note, my Chinese friends can be pretty harsh with me about weight issues as well. Its a part of the culture that advice on such matters shows that you care about the person and their health.
I’m a size 4 and was criticized for being overweight at 120lbs. A few months ago I dropped down to 113 lbs but now I’m back to 118lbs after following a regular eating pattern and routine instead of starvation eating.
Exercise should be fun. What about salsa dancing or some kind of group activity? i find group activities like salsa dancing can help burn calories. it’s also challenging and something you can strive to improve on each time.
You go girl! Let’s work out, but as others mentioned, getting fit is something you have to be focused on/ really want. Remember it’s not something done overnight but it’s also something that’s overly difficult.
You just need to make simple changes to your lifestyle like skipping out on that one sweet snack and swapping it with fruit and some exercise like walking briskly 3x a week for 30 min. You’re going to have to cut down on all those deals and steals when it comes to fast/junk food. You can still gorge yourself once in awhile, but remember it’s not about cutting out, it’s all about Reducing! I have this idea that I’ll show you later, that could help you focus.

It’s really hard to say whether a size 2 person needs to lose weight or not. Dress sizes tend to go by bust size, but having a gut or hips can make certain styles untenable. Her troubles hiking really do suggest she could use a little more physical activity (can’t we all).
