Women are quickly becoming more common in some of the top positions as others retire. I think that in time, there will be a natural progression towards more women in top positions just due to more qualified women being in the workplace. That being said, it is still really difficult in academia to balance work and family; I don't think that there is anyone to blame - it is simply the nature of the work. I chose to drop out because my field is extremely competitive and demands long hours.
