One of the first things you should have done is to fill your bathtub and washing machine. If the power is out long enough, water can go offline to. Also, fill various, clean, empty containers. You should also have an old-fashioned, heavy duty 1960s Grundig transistor radio, PP3 (9V) batteries last forever in those things. Also, make sure your smoke detectors/Carbon monoxide detectors have battery backups!

I was lucky and still had power. I was just reading a little more about you and I feel like I must have passed you at the Marina Plaza a few times. :-)

Wow, this post brings back memories. The last black out I was in was 24 hours long. It was the big on that affected the whole east coast of North America. You know what else runs on electricity? Water pumps. In our apartment the toilet and showers didn't work. Thanks goodness my roomie's bf was smart enough to fill the tub with water.

People were looting it was just crazy. I was a little scared. My cell ran out of power, and the payphone didn't work. I had only $10 cash and ATM's didn't work. People lining up to clear out the grocery stores.

I horded cash for awhile after that incident.
